In conceptualizing our specialized program for the expecting mothers, we were guided by the most important principles for all mothers – safety, comfort, dedication, and the highest quality of medical care. For birthing to be successful, it is extremely important that the circumstances under which it occurs be most favorable. Our private clinic offers all of the listed conditions – the best care in a safe and comfortable environment.
Every expecting mother has an assigned gynecologist, anesthesiologist, and neonatologist, several nurses and midwives who care for her 24 hours a day for the duration of her stay. Care for the patient does not begin with the delivery but starts with courses and exercises that will prepare the patient both physically and psychologically for birthing. The partners are included in the programs as active participants in the process.
The delivery rooms in Maternity Hospital Podobnik are equipped with the latest in adjustable birthing tables that allow for different positions during delivery. Partners or family members are allowed to be present in the room. Epidural analgesia is available to mothers who would like to diminish the pain. In addition, Maternity Hospital Podobnik is the only one in Zagreb that offers the possibility of delivery in water. It is a unique experience that does not allow for any medical interventions. Maternity Hospital Podobnik is equipped with up to date delivery rooms and state of the art equipment. Delivery tables can be adjusted to different positions during delivery to maximize comfort and minimize difficulties during delivery.
We are aware that delivery is a very stressful period for future mothers and we do our best to make her stay at the hospital and the delivery room as comfortable as possible. We strive to grant our patients every wish and are open to suggestions as long as there are no medical contraindications. For example, during the first phase of delivery our patients may use relaxation balls that decrease pain and accelerate the opening process, they may listen to their favorite music during delivery and have their husband or family member beside them.
Our goal is to make the delivery a pleasurable experience of giving new life which the mother will always remember. That is why our mothers-to-be are not treated as patients but as VIP clients.

Epidural anesthesia will allow mothers to deliver with practically no pain and maintain the sensation of contractions and delivery during the process.

A doctor administers a local anesthetic in the lower back area of the spinal cord. Nerves that lead from the uterus to the birth canal are numbed but do not interrupt the natural dynamics of labor. The goal of the epidural is to allow the mothers to maintain the sensation of contractions and natural delivery but eliminate the pain as much as possible.
This method of pain control during the delivery process does not make the mothers drowsy before or after delivery while the baby gets only slight quantities of the medication. Our pediatricians, nurses specialized in neonatology, gynecologists, and midwifes welcome the newborn.
Right after birth the newborn baby is given to the mother because this first skin to skin contact sooths both the mother and the child. After the initial check up, the mother and the child spend some time together in the delivery room before proceeding to the suite.
Pediatricians and nurses specialized in neonatology help with breast feeding, bathing the baby, caring for the skin and umbilical cord, and give all the necessary information that will make the initial days of motherhood happier and easier!
